Numbers 33:53-56 53 Take possession of the land and settle in it, for I have given you the land to possess. 54 Distribute the land by lot, according to your clans. To a larger group give a larger inheritance, and to a smaller group a smaller one. Whatever falls to them by lot will be theirs. Distribute it according to your ancestral tribes. 55 “‘But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land, those you allow to remain will become barbs in your eyes and thorns in your sides. They will give you trouble in the land where you will live. 56 And then I will do to you what I plan to do to them.’”

Gods promise to Israel living victoriously in the Promised Land was contingent upon them driving out the inhabitants of the land. God was very clear, if they did not drive out the inhabitants, they would be a snare, a thorn, an irritant to them. They would never be able to live a productive fruitful life in the land. Because they never drove them out, they were constantly plagued with struggle, turmoil and the influence of the gods of those nations.

In our walk with Christ, it is very similar. When we accepted Jesus Christ as the Lord and Savior of our lives, we are saved from the Power of sin, we are saved from the penalty of sin, and however, we are not saved from the presence of sin. Our flesh, our natural man is still under the influence of sin. The apostle Paul say in romans chapter 7, verse 21, I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. 22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: 23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.

Our flesh used to be enemy held territory, the more we submit to Christ in everything, the more freedom and deliverance we enjoy. I believe many Christians struggle with getting rid of some old ways, some nagging habits, and some pattern of behaviors, some thoughts and attitudes.

Those are things that we must be very aggressive in driving out of our Christian experience. When we don’t drive them out, they become irritants and snares for our walk with Christ. We cannot live the life of Joy and victory that our relationship with God through Jesus Christ promises you. We end up taking one step forward and two steps backward. There is always the nagging irritation that we are not living all that Christ died for us to be.

Maybe that is not your experience, but I believe this is written for someone who is struggling in this area and wants to be set free. Let me tell you what I would like you to do.

Identify that area in your life that you haven’t completely driven out yet, call it by name and command it, in the name Jesus to get out of your life. Commit yourself to the fight; get after it every day until you experience victory.

Here are 4 steps that I believe can help you drive them out. (1) Put them under the blood of Jesus declare Jesus victory on the cross over them (2) commit yourself to prayer (3) Allowing the Holy Spirit to fill that space (4) Every time that thing tries to reassert itself into your life, meditate on the Word of God. Joshua 1: 8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

Jesus wants us to live a life of complete victory and Joy. Say it with me, “In Jesus name no more setbacks”.
